bytes) Return to 406 MHz Beacons and Marine Safety Products406 MHz EPIRBs and accessoriesThe satellite compatible EPIRB is the most significant advance in search and rescue technology for many years. It is not of course, a substitute for a marine radio. Mariners should not be over-reliant on any single system. Wise and safe mariners plan carefully, ensure that shore contacts know their sail plan, carry a marine radio and the correct range of other safety equipment and operate their craft sensibly to suit conditions at sea. MT400 406 MHz beacons are programmed with a unique identifying code which is transmitted by the beacon in an emergency. After you purchase a 406 MHz beacon you MUST register its unique code with rescue co-ordination authority so that, if an emergency occurs and you need to activate your beacon, the authorities will have immediate access to your name, your emergency contacts and the type of vessel or craft you are in. NOTE: The information provided in the registration form is ONLY used for Search and Rescue purposes.
